 Why Teach?

Ever since I was a little girl I was always interested in being a teacher. Mostly because I loved the school and teachers I had growing up and wanted to be just like them. I grew up in Indonesia and moved around a lot as a kid, so I've had many different teachers. But the ones that stood out to me the most were my second grade teacher and dance teacher from high school. My second grade teacher made learning fun, and always made going to class exciting for her students. While my dance teacher and I had a close relationship, where I felt like I could go to her for anything, and she always pushed me to believe in myself.

Those to characteristics are things I'd like to take with me when I start teaching. I'd like to teach elementary school, specifically fourth grade. Mostly because I really enjoy the company of younger kids, I feel as though they are more excited about learning than older students are, and they are independent enough to do the little things like tie their own shoes.

I don't favor teaching any specific subject yet, but Math definitely spark my interest. Math was always a hard subject for me as a kid, mostly because I moved around a lot and every place I moved to was learning different parts of math. For example, when I moved from Indonesia to Australia I had to memorize the whole multiplication table in a week because in Indonesia we had just started getting introduced to it, while in Australia they had already learned it. So helping other kids with math and making it simple for them would definitely make me happy.
