  What makes great teaching?  For my top five strategies i selected blogging with educators. I found is super helpful to be able to read some of my peers ideas and perspectives on the materials that we read because I felt as thought it brought new ideas that I hadn’t thought about previously. Another strategy I wrote about was doing the golden lines assignment. For me I had to read the text a second time and really think about what parts stood out to me the most and I felt as though doing that helped me understand the material to a deeper extent. Additionally, I liked learning the material through multiple sources like videos and text because watching people speak about the topic versus reading kind of brought more life to the material, I felt the emotional connection made the material easier to comprehend.  What is worth learning ? Throughout this module it was very interesting to learn about the different ways that teachers can teach new information to their students. Through the video called 3 Curricula All Schools Teach  I learned about explicit curriculum, hidden curriculum, and null curriculum. Explicit curriculum can be described as things that are formally taught, hidden is the message that is communicated, and null is the information this is missed/pushed to the side. I learned through the video Changing The World One Word At A Time  that it is very important for teachers to be wary of how they teach because the things that aren't explicitly said out loud can have the most impact on students.  To make my blackout poem from the text Ending Curriculum Violence  I read the text once and on the second read I focused on the key points that spoke out to me.   What lengths am I willing to go to in order to do right by every child?   Some words I used in my WorditOut is "support" because I learned through the YouTube video "This is Equity" that students need different levels of support based on their life experiences. For example people who speak multiple languages could need extra assistance understanding their school work. Other words I used are "compassion", "communication", and "open-mindedness". All of these terms are words that teachers should be in order to do culturally responsive teaching. This is a concept that involves building relationships with your students and teaching from a place of care and love for your students. This involves being in good communication with your students. This means asking them about their lives and learning about things such as their immigration history, favorite activities, concerns, and strengths, as well as asking them about their needs.  Is Schooling Equitable? In my opinion schooling is only equitable depending on the type of teacher that you have. In general, I've learned that teachers don't teach students of color the same as white people. Teachers are usually more suspicious of people of color thus watch over them more closely/strictly than others. To me this ties back to the Ted Talk about the dangers of a single story. The only reason teachers feel the need to watch over people of color is because of the stereotype that they're "loud", "more disruptive", "distracted" etc. than the rest of students. But this is only a single point of view and doesn't take into account the reality that your race doesn't determine whether you are "disciplined enough" in class.  I learned from the Ted Talk "Every Kid Needs A Champion" that students will all have a fair chance of learning if teachers put in the effort to make a relationship with their students and ...

Do I have the full picture?

 Do I have the full picture? I agree with the point that there is a teacher education gap. For this reason it is even more important that as teachers we should be knowledgeable about our history in order to prevent ourselves from being dysconsciously racist in our classrooms. Being dysconsciously racist means believing that racial injustices and white privilege's are justified and okay. Something else we need to look out for as future teachers is not to be micro aggressive, especially towards marginalized students. If teachers were to make sly comments about marginalized students and treat them differently than the rest of the students than that racism would become institutionalized leading it to become accepted knowledge in the classroom. Instead, we need to be inclusive, set an example for our students to be accepting of everybody, and encourage our students to learn about one another.  A quote that stood out to me from the modules was "How can you love something you know so...

How do we talk about issues that matter

 How do we talk about issues that matter? From my experience teachers bring up issues that may be hard to talk about through writing prompts and videos. The most recent one I can think of was in my English class last semester the teacher would have us write open-ended responses to a specific prompt and have us discuss our response with the rest of the class once we were done. I really liked that she did this because it let us form our own opinions surrounding a topic with our own previous knowledge before being influenced by what others had to say. More importantly, by hearing the opinions by other people in our classroom we were able to hear different points that we may not have thought about it earlier.  In the future I believe teachers should encourage classroom discussion when discussing controversial topics. Schools Purpose

  What is the Purpose of Schools? The purpose of school is to teach students a variety of new information in hopes to prepare them for the following grade. This is a system that continues until graduation, and may follow into college in order to help students get the required tools (like a diploma) to be work in their favorite careers. Even though the main purpose of school is to learn, do work, and complete homework there are many other reasons we go to school. For example, going to school gives students the opportunity to socialize and meet other kids of different cultures. This helps the students be aware of the diversity around the world and learn about how their classmates may be different to them. This might even help strengthen their own identity and understand themselves on a deeper level.
